Wooden Toys
What is the hype with wooden toys? Are they really better? Honestly, yes, and for several reasons:
They look better
We all know how messy kids toys can get. Even when they have a room specifically for their toys it can look unbelievably chaotic. I’ve noticed a big difference in the way our playroom looks now with mostly wooden toys than it did years ago with mostly plastic toys. The mess doesn’t cause anxiety for me because it somehow still looks good. This is the least important reason, but still worth adding for parents that look for aesthetically pleasing toys or parents who also experience anxiety from messes.
They are more durable
This is a big one. We have had many toys over the last 9 years and the wooden ones have without a doubt been better with rough play. My children have broken many plastic toys while playing with them, but wooden ones? Maybe a screw needs to be tightened or a lost piece needs to be found, but that’s it. Our wooden toys have not ever broken.
They are better for the environment
Another important reason. Have you ever searched up how long plastic can take to decompose in landfills? It’s shocking, and it’s also likely where most broken plastic toys end up. They can be donated to be recycled, but unfortunately I don’t think that happens as often as it should. This is why wooden toys are better for the environment, if they do happen to break they won’t take years and years to decompose in the landfill.
They are safer for your kids
Yes, they’re actually safer! Because they are less likely to break you don’t have to worry about any sharp broken pieces hurting your child. Good wooden toys (such as the ones from Coco Village*) also don’t contain the same dyes and chemicals that plastic toys do.
Where to buy great quality wooden toys
